Transforming Speechless for the Ice

The original version of "Speechless" had beautiful musicality, but it was long and drawn out, with extended sections that did not translate well to a competitive skating program. The percussion was also fairly subdued, which made the beat harder for skaters to clearly match with footwork and choreography.

Our goal was to tighten the structure and strengthen the rhythm so the track would better support skating elements.

Structural Edit

The first step was a seamless structural cut. We analyzed the phrasing of the song and identified natural transition points where sections could be removed without disrupting the musical flow.

The track was then shortened while preserving the original emotional build and narrative arc.

The result is a clean, natural progression that feels intentional rather than edited.

Rhythm Enhancement (Re-Drum)

To make the music more skateable, we performed a re-drum pass on the track. The original drums were fairly soft and lacked the punch needed for choreography timing.

We added stronger, more defined percussion to:

  • Emphasize downbeats
  • Improve rhythmic clarity for footwork and step sequences
  • Give the music more energy and drive on the ice

This keeps the character of the original song intact while making the beat far easier for skaters to interpret and perform to.

Final Result

The finished edit delivers a track that is:

  • Shorter and competition-ready
  • Seamlessly structured
  • Rhythmically clearer and more powerful

It maintains the spirit of the original recording while giving skaters the timing precision and energy they need for performance.
